Jeremy and Jessica had another great weekend improving in their new cars while at the Midwest Divisional at Heartland Park Topeka. Jeremy drove the kart with Shawn Hill both Saturday and Sunday. He was fortunate to drive in Heat 3 on Saturday, in drying conditions compared to the wet/rain from earlier in the day. He is consistently getting faster and closing the gap to his National-level co-driver, Shawn Hill. On day 1, Jeremy’s fastest time was 50.532, only 1.357 seconds from Shawn. On day 2, Jeremay struggled to drop below the 50-second mark. He had a solid first run of 50.256, but cones and other struggles kept him the 53-second range the next 2 runs. Things finally clicked on his final run and he finished with 49.680, 1.377 seconds back from 1st. Jeremy finished the 2-day event with a 2nd place trophy with a combined time of 100.212, 2.734 seconds off Shawn’s 1st place finish. Jeremy also had the 2nd fastest raw time of both days and finished 27th in PAX overall – he was 29th after Day 1 and 27th after Day 2.
Jessica took the Doof Wagon out for her second time. She took it relatively easier this time as she went back to basics – focusing on straight-line breaking, steering with the throttle, and getting used to the POWER of the Doof! Jessica’s kept shaving time off and went from a first run of 72.930 to a 64.146. However, when you consider how fast the DW should be (Brad Smith and Dan Wheeler ran the course in the 53’s in the Doof Wagon), she has a lot of improving to do. She ended up 117th in PAX overall.
All small recap this week, but we will be back with more over the next couple weeks.
